Bowling For Soup are gearing up for what Jaret Reddick believes could be the band’s finest hour, after an unexpected studio session spiralled into a full-blown new album.
Jaret revealed the whole thing started last summer when SSL — the console company — asked them to record a single track, Holding On To That Hate, to test new gear.
He told ContactMusic.com: “We went into the studio just to do one song.
“But we loved it. We realised, man, this is f****** great! It was our first song as a three-piece and I was like, ‘Guys, I think I’ve got the fever. Let’s just f****** do it!’”
The Girl All The Bad Guys Want hitmaker band blocked out February to make it happen, with most of the writing done at the end of last year.
And according to Jaret, bassist Rob Felicetti came into his own.
He said: “Rob really stepped up.
“He co-wrote three songs on the last record — he’s got six or seven on this one. We recorded 18 songs in 12 days and I couldn’t be more proud.”
Jaret didn’t hold back when comparing the new material to their recent albums.
He admitted: “As I look back, I think Sorry For Partyin’ in 2009 was the last great, great, great record we did.
“There’s stuff on the last two where I’m like, ‘Okay, maybe I shouldn’t have put that on there.’ But there is not one stinker on this album. It’s so f****** good it’s weird to talk about.”
He even says the trio believe it could top their most beloved releases.
He said: “We’ve all said this might be the best Bowling For Soup album ever — which is crazy, right? Drunk Enough To Dance changed people’s lives. Hangover You Don’t Deserve, The Great Burrito Extortion Case… all of that. But I’m very excited.”
Despite the buzz, fans will have to wait a little longer.
Jaret said: “We were going to rush it out, but that makes zero sense.
“I’m on the road with Frank [Turner], then Simple Plan. So we’re probably looking at the autumn or even early next year — but it’ll be worth the wait.”
The group's last studio effort was 2022's Pop Drunk Snot Bread.
Bowling For Soup and Frank Turner are hitting the road in May, June and July for co-headline tours across Australia and the UK.
